Carpenter Bees Extermination

April 12, 2009 by admin

I want need to do some serious carpenter bee extermination. I have 20-30 of them drilling my back deck and it’s starting to look like swiss cheese. Can I just spray them all down with the Maxxthor or do I have to dust all the holes too?

Definitely dust the holes too. Successful carpenter bee extermination will only happen if you dust them with the Demise as explained in our CARPENTER BEE CONTROL article. Since the eggs, larvae and pupae reside in their holes, you must have something there to kill off the developing bees. Demise will be key if you want to be rid of them once and for all.

Carpenterbees that are orange

April 5, 2009 by admin

Hi. Your article was very helpful. But I have a question. We get 1 or 2 black carpenter bees in our backyard every spring/summer. They don’t really do anything but scare us. But yesterday we saw a bee that looked and acted just like a carpenter bee except it was totally orange. The whole body. Could that still be a carpenter bee? Just curious. Thanks for your time.

Most likely a Valley Carpenter Bee. These are are commonly seen as being golden or tan and very fuzzy. They live on the western side of the US but can migrate. They’ve been described as “gold” and even orange. We suspect it’s the local light that makes their color vary. Regardless of their color, they’re still very much carpenter bees and can be controlled as described in our carpenterbee control article.

Kill carpenter bees

April 5, 2009 by admin

I’ve got several carpenter bees flying around my house I want to KILL!! What do you suggest I use? I see you have the spray and the wasp freeze but I want the stuff that will kill the best. I hate these things!!!

Kill carpenter bees is easy to do. The problem is whether you will be stopping them. For a quick kill, get the Wasp Freeze as it’s fast acting and kind of fun to use. But as our carpenter bee control article explains, you really must treat the nest if you wish to get to the root of the problem. I suggest you spend some time trying to learn where they might be nesting and then go after them there with the Demise. This will prove to be a better approach in getting long term carpenter bee control.

Bee that drills in wood

April 4, 2009 by admin

I’ve been seeing this big bee drilling holes in my deck. What kind of bee is it and what can I do to stop it from destroying my house??

What you’re seeing is a carpenter bee. They are very active in the spring as this is the time when females drill holes to start nests. We have an in depth article about CARPENTER BEE CONTROL which  highlights all you’ll need to know about this pest and how to treat. First, read the article. Then get some Demise and Maxxthor to stop the damage from getting any worse.

Carpenter bee larvae in holes

April 3, 2009 by admin

I had some carpenter bee holes in my swingset last year which were treated and sealed off. This year we had to do some repairs to the wood and in the area where we treated. When we cut away some of this rotten wood there were large white larvae looking worms tucked away in the back of the holes. They were HUGE! Are these carpenter bee larvae?

Most likely. Carpenter bee holes are used as nests where eggs are deposited. If you don’t treat with the Demise we have listed in our Carpenter Bee Control article the eggs won’t die. In fact, they’ll hatch out the following year attempting to complete the life cycle of the bees. What you saw was most likely the carpenter bee larvae. At this point I would make sure any holes still remaining in the wood are properly treated or else the swing set will suffer more damage. And if you notice adult bees hanging around this spring, be sure to spray with the Maxxthor to stop them from boring new holes.
